At the end of the first thirty games covered I owned 11 of them, for a 36.9% ownership rate. I also had one game that I formerly owned but had sold, so it didn’t get counted. Today I will cover games ranked from 70 up to 61 and see where the ratio ends up.

For all posts in this series check for the BGG Top 100 tag.

70: Rising Sun
Released 2018
This game got some love from The Dice Tower, but I have plenty of other games in this category and so I haven’t tried to pick this one up yet.

69: Agricola (Revised Edition)
Released 2016
This one is a bit weird in that it appears twice on the top 100 list. I actually own it, but so far I have not tried to figure out what the differences are between this and the higher-rated original version.

68: Crokinole
Released 1876
Ha, a new record for oldest game on the list. 🙂 This is a dexterity-based board game that I know absolutely nothing about, other than it’s a dexterity game. And I’m not even sure that’s correct…

67: Twilight Imperium (Third Edition)
Released 2005
This game just recently went through an update (the fourth edition is current now) but the third edition still gets the higher ranking. I don’t currently own this one.

66: El Grande
Released 1995
This is getting to be a fairly boring list! So far I’ve owned only one game, and that one I don’t know that much about. Sheesh, why did I think this was going to be a good idea…

65: Lisboa
Released 2017
I don’t own this one. Following the theme still…

64: Maracaibo
Released 2019
I just bought this game earlier this year when it came back in print. Some of the newer games from smaller publishers that sell well go through stages of “where can I find this game” to “this game is everywhere” and back to “where can I find this game again?” Since I had heard some really good things both about the game and the designer I picked it up. If we get to one of the “where can I find this game” stages and I still haven’t played it, I will probably sell it. That’s how I fund a number of my board game purchases…buying things that I know go through cycles and selling them when they are in demand.

I have paid for quite a few games by selling Memoir ’44 expansions that way.

Hey, don’t hate me, it’s a good way to stretch my budget…

63: Marvel Champions: The Card Game
Released 2019
I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know about this game until I got to this point on the list. There are other games (Lisboa) that I at least knew about. This one, not so much.

62: Caylus
Released 2005
I do not know or own this game.

61: Clank! A Deck Building Adventure
Released 2016
I would have sworn that there was a TableTop episode about this game, but apparently not! This is another game that I own (yay!) but have not played yet (boo!) but at least that gets my owned count back up a bit.

The tally so far:
Games Mentioned: 40
Games Owned: 14 (35%)
Games Previously Owned: 1

After the first 40 games I see that I own only 35% of them. Is that a good thing? Or bad? On the one hand it shows that I’m not a complete lemming that buys everything that other people think is highly rated. There are some games that are on this list that I don’t own that I would like, I am sure. But maybe I’m missing out on some really awesome experiences?

I think I will save some musings on that for my next post, at which point I will be halfway through the top 100. Stick with me, I promise the posts won’t all be this boring…

I have written a series of posts looking at the Board Game Geek (BGG) top 100 games, checking to see if I had the game in my collection and talking a little bit about each one, if I could.
